The History of Afternoon Tea

Tea probably originated in the area of the Burma-India border. Legend holds that it was brought to China by Buddhist monks.

The origin of the mid-afternoon tea however is credited to Anna, the Duchess of Bedford. Traditionally in the 1840’s dinner was not served until 9pm in the evening and the Duchess often became hungry, especially in the summer when dinner was served even later. She ordered a small meal of bread, butter, and other niceties, such as cakes, tarts, and biscuits, to be brought secretly to her boudoir.

When she was exposed she was not ridiculed, as she had feared, but her habit caught on and the concept of a small meal, of niceties and perhaps tea, became popular and eventually known as "afternoon tea".

Here at Cuddle My Soul we aim to bring you such niceties all day long as we believe the art of afternoon tea can raise spirits no end and perhaps together we can start a tradition of our very own!

The History of Coffee

Legend has it, coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi. One day, he noticed his goats frolicking around in an unusually spirited manner. He observed that they were also eating the berries of a nearby shrub.

Not being one to be left out of all the fun, he decided to try the berries himself. He was energized and pleased with the effects the cherries had on him. He told his friends and soon word spread throughout the region. The rest is history.

We are proud to serve Nespresso’s Grand Crus. Heston Blumenthal, chef of the renowned English Michelin-3-star restaurant "The Fat Duck", succumbed to the exceptional quality of Nespresso coffees, which - in his opinion - are meant to be tasted like great wines: first with the eyes, then with the nose and finally with the mouth.

Our 6 Grand Crus, offer a huge variety of profiles and aromas. Every Grand Cru in our range is the product of a complex process of selection, assembly and roasting.
